KYBELLA®

For years, men and women alike have been frustrated by double chins. Today, we’re seeing more and more of ourselves in social media photos, often at unflattering angles, and demand for a treatment for this stubborn aesthetic concern has been rising. KYBELLA double chin injections at Destin Plastic Surgery are a simple solution. Our board-certified plastic surgeon, Dr. William Burden, was among the first in the region to adopt this exciting FDA-approved product.

For more information about reducing the appearance of a double chin, request a consultation online or call our office at (850) 654-1194. Located in Destin, Florida, we provide first-class services for patients choosing double chin injections with KYBELLA from surrounding cities, including Pensacola, Fort Walton Beach, Miramar Beach, Niceville, and Panama City, as well as neighboring states and even international locations.

What Is Submental Fullness?

“Submental fullness” is the medical term for the common aesthetic condition known as the double chin. Although submental fullness is caused by fat deposits, it’s not limited to people who are overweight. Instead, men and women of all body types can have this unwanted fat that can endure despite a healthy diet and regular exercise.

Although the double chin is not a new concern, our technology-forward culture has contributed to the newfound attention to this area of the face. Selfies and video chats often require people to tilt the head forward or downward, highlighting a double chin and causing people to feel quite self-conscious.

In the past, people who wanted to remedy this concern would rely on liposuction. Although that is an effective solution that is still a good choice for some, patients now have a non-surgical alternative in KYBELLA.

What Is KYBELLA?

KYBELLA is currently the only FDA-approved injectable treatment for the reduction of submental fullness.

KYBELLA uses an active ingredient called deoxycholic acid to emulsify and destroy targeted fat cells. Deoxycholic acid occurs naturally in the body, helping us digest and metabolize fat in the foods we eat. When injected into areas of unwanted fat beneath the skin, KYBELLA dissolves fat and reduces the visible bulge that causes a double chin.

A trusted Kybella Trainer

Dr. William R. Burden held a KYBELLA training session for other doctors in August 2015, sponsored by KYTHERA, the maker of the product. Dr. Burden is among an elite group of plastic surgeons selected and trained by KYTHERA in Miami just after KYBELLA's release. At Destin Plastic Surgery, he trained doctors from the Florida Panhandle and New Orleans on how to use the product for optimal effect. Dr. Burden continues training others on this innovative treatment.

What Can I Expect During Treatment?

Like other injectables, KYBELLA is administered during a brief in-office treatment. You can expect to be in the office for about 30 minutes. During your treatment, we first cleanse your skin to remove makeup, oil, and dirt. We can apply a topical anesthetic to enhance your comfort if you wish. Then we make a series of quick injections below your chin. Immediately following the injections, we may offer you a cold compress to help reduce swelling.

The side effects of KYBELLA are not unlike those of other injectable treatments. After your treatment, you may experience redness, bruising, firmness, numbness, or tenderness at your injection sites. These effects are relatively minor and temporary. Immediately following your appointment, you may return to your normal daily activities.

How Long Will My Results Last?

In most cases, KYBELLA is administered over the course of 2 to 6 treatment sessions, typically spaced about a month apart. It can take several additional weeks for results to fully develop. However, once they do, you can expect to enjoy them indefinitely. The fat reduced with KYBELLA injections will not come back, especially if you adhere to a healthy diet and exercise regimen.

Complementary Procedures

Although KYBELLA treatments are highly effective on their own, they can also be done in conjunction with surgical rejuvenation, such as a face or neck lift, particularly for those who have some skin laxity. KYBELLA can also be a nice addition to other injectable treatments, particularly dermal fillers. By strategically adding volume to some parts of the face and reducing a double chin, our physicians can completely customize your results and renew your face’s contours without altering your unique appearance.
